Woman dies a week after Anderson Co. car crash

A woman has died a week after a car accident sent her to the hospital.

56-year-old Alberta Farrer died Thursday morning at UT Hospital. She was involved in a three-vehicle crash on November 1.

The accident happened on State Highway 61 in Anderson County. Farrer was driving northbound when another vehicle crossed the center line and hit her vehicle head-on. A third vehicle, driving behind Farrer, swerved to avoid the accident but ended up hitting Farrer's vehicle on the driver's side.

Thin line between Sandy rain and snow keeps road crews busy

The potential for piles of snow in the higher elevations of East Tennessee from Superstorm Sandy kept road crews busy Tuesday.  That includes Cocke County where the highway department maintains 700 miles of roads, many of which are in mountainous areas.

Superstorm Sandy is causing flight delays and cancellations throughout the country.

So far, more than 15,000 flights have been cancelled and in Knoxville, we are seeing the effects.

Robin Vanleigh is sort of lucky, "I'm going from here to Chicago to Phoenix."

She's not headed to the Northeast, but she's still worried about her flight plan.

"So far, everything is on time, but since I am flying into Chicago and Sandy is making her way closer and closer, I am getting a little concerned that I might get stuck there," explained Robin.

"No refusal" laws will be enforced this Labor Day weekend

"No refusal" laws will be enforced this Labor Day weekend

It will no doubt be a busy holiday weekend for people traveling and attending Labor Day weekend parties, and a couple counties in East Tennessee will be cracking down on drunk driving.

Roane, Campbell and Jefferson counties will add patrols on Labor Day weekend to enforce the state's new "no refusal" law.

The law took effect in July. It allows authorities to get a search warrant for a blood sample, even if the driver refuses to take a breathalyzer test.

In total, 16 counties state-wide will be participating this weekend.
