50 years after fire, Belmont School site sees new life

The Andersonville Volunteer Fire Department is hard at work building a new fire hall, but you won't find construction workers on the job site.

Instead of a contractors, they're relying on men in their 60's and 70's who have a unique connection to that plot of land.

"I went to the grammar school here in 1952," said James Ridenour, 75. Andersonville's newest fire station will sit on the same site as the former Belmont Grammar School, which burned down in the 1960's.

Oak Ridge High adds class time after deficit found

Oak Ridge High adds class time after deficit found

Juniors and seniors at Oak Ridge High School lacked 75 minutes of instructional time each week.

The Tennessee Department of Education discovered the difference through a computer program that tracks instructional time for all school districts in the state.

Superintendent Tom Bailey said a 42 year-long lunch tradition at ORHS caused the time deficit.

Juniors and seniors, who are in good academic standing, were allowed to travel off campus for one hour lunch breaks.

To fill the 75 minute weekly void, school officials made two changes at ORHS.
