Security jobs being cut in Oak Ridge

A government contractor will cut more than four dozen security jobs in Oak Ridge.

WSI Oak Ridge confirmed it will eliminate as many as 51 jobs over the next few months.

The company provides security for the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

WSI spokesperson Courtney Henery says the company will eliminate up to 34 security police officer and three staff positions at the Y-12 plant.  The job cut plan also calls for cuts of up to fourteen security police and one staff position at East Tennessee Technology Park, which used to be known as K-25.

The company says it will offer its employees at these locations a voluntary separation program until late this month.

Henry says these cuts will not weaken security in Oak Ridge.
