Hundreds of East Tennessee families will have food on their tables, thanks to the Oak Ridge office of the Department of Energy. The DOE collected more than 11,000 pounds of food as part of this year's Feds Feed Families campaign.

It's the third year the Oak Ridge office has taken part in the national drive.

DOE employees say they're happy to give back to the community.

Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Hundreds of East Tennessee cancer patients benefit from a volunteer effort to help them around the holidays.

"This says love is all you need," reads a hand made pillow case.

Love motivated UT Medical Oncologist Dr. Susan Huntsinger to start a program to help the cancer patients she treats.

"To be able to do this for them and give them just that little bit of spark that little bit of hope is just a wonderful thing," she said.

She realized the holidays can be especially difficult for her patients.

He visited the Oliver Springs City Hall to hand out community development grants and local parks and recreation grants.

A sad reality of exotic pet ownership is the pets grow up. If owners can't take of them then they often end up being put down.

An East Tennessee rescue facility is a forever home for these animals.

"I would like to have zoo. Clinton needs a zoo," James Cox said.

That's how James Cox decided to start the Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue 22 years ago with rescue animals.

He doesn't buy or breed.

This year's flu shots becoming available

Flu season is just around the corner, and already drug stores and doctor's offices have supplies of this year's vaccine.

The shots will be available to patients by the end of the month.

But if you get your shot now, will you be protected all season? The Centers for Disease Control says "yes."

The CDC recommends that people get their shots as soon as possible. It suggests everyone from six months old and older get a yearly vaccine.

One local flu shot clinic opens Tuesday.

An investigation is underway surrounding a Clinton apartment fire.

The fire started overnight at an out-building at the Ridgetop Apartments, and it spread to the main building.

Luckily, it only damaged one apartment before crews managed to put out the flames.

Nine families were displaced from the building, and right now, the investigation's been turned over to the Clinton City Police Department.
