Gov. Haslam announces grants for parks, communities

Monday afternoon, Governor Bill Haslam was in East Tennessee to announce which parks and communities could be getting some additional help for community projects.

He visited the Oliver Springs City Hall to hand out community development grants and local parks and recreation grants.

Among the lucky recipients, Oliver Springs and Lenoir City both received $500,000 for water or sewer system improvements. Cocke County got nearly the same amount for a water line extension, and Clinton received $339,000 for housing rehabilitation.

Governor Haslam said he hopes finishing the community projects will lay the groundwork for future economic development.

A couple area parks also got some funding. Oliver Springs received $100,000 for Carmichael Park and Arrowhead Park. Anderson County now has $22,000 to further develop Marlow Park.
