Oak Ridge officials have given a green light to the new Kroger Marketplace store.

This week, city council unanimously approved key actions so the $30-million dollar project can get started.

According City Manager Mark Watson, the council signed off on the concept plan for the entire 26-acre property, and approved the traffic accessibility plan.  One change adds a new traffic light.

Finally, it voted to make the roads on the site part of the property.  They will no longer be public roads.

Oak Ridge's mayor did not vote, because he works for the local real estate firm that is working with Kroger on the project.

The Kroger Marketplace will be at the corner of Oak Ridge Turnpike and Illinois Avenue,  one of the busiest intersections in the city.

Site prep will begin soon.  The store is set to be complete by early 2014.

Watson says the community is getting excited about having a new place to shop.
