Students get a taste of the real world in BizTown

A group of Anderson County fifth graders got a taste of the working world on Thursday.

The Junior Achievement BizTown experience is set up like a typical town, and now, it has a construction company.

Phillips and Jordan and Stowers Cat Contract Shop make up the newest BizTown business.

Students learned first hand what it takes to work in the construction industry.

"We wanted the kids in our area, in the counties that participate in BizTown, to see that you can make a wonderful living moving dirt and moving equipment. It's a viable income for a family, and there was nothing like this in the construction industry in BizTown," said Kelly Baker of Phillips & Jordan.

Sudents learned how to make a business plan and bid for projects.   They also learned about the recent I-40 rockslide and the details of the clean-up project.
