It’s Secret City Festival time again in Oak Ridge! The bands have been selected, the schedule is filling up, and tickets to this year’s headliner concerts go on sale Monday, May 6.  Tickets are priced at an early bird rate of $17. After June 7, ticket prices go up to $20.

Pocket sized guide provides historic tour of Secret City

Seventy years ago the Army created a secret city as part of the effort to create an atomic bomb to end World War II.

That Secret City is Oak Ridge.

Now visitors have a way to explore its history with the help of a pocket sized guide.

Standing in front of the Midtown Community Center, Martin McBride explained the building's history. "It was built in 1945. It is vintage Manhattan Project. It was a recreation center during the Manhattan Project."

Get in the Spirit with the ORCO Halloween Concert

The free October 28th concert by the Oak Ridge Community Orchestra features special music to set the mood for the upcoming Halloween.  Get in the spirit with Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens, Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky, Farandole by Bizet and the Harry Potter Suite by John Williams.  As a special treat, the Secret City Winds Quintet will take the stage for two pieces, March to the Scaffold by Berlioz, and Polka from “The Golden Age” by Shostakovich.

Alexander Inn renovation project may soon get a tax break

A renovation project at Oak Ridge's Alexander Inn may soon get a tax break from the city.

Developer Rick Dover plans to invest up to $5 million to turn the World War II era hotel into an assisted living center for seniors.

He's also asking the city for an incentive program to offset that cost. It's called a pilot program, or payment in lieu of taxes.

    An exploration of atomic testing phenomena and subsequent 1950's atomic culture is captured in "DOOMTOWN," the original paintings of atomic art by Doug Waterfield in his exhibition opening October 12 at the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge.
