Clinch River Community School opens for special needs students

The Anderson County school district officially opened a new school for some special students on Tuesday.

The Clinch River Community School will serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The classes will be smaller and cater to students with special needs.

The program has been in place in the school district for more than twenty years, but after years of planning, it finally has it's own new building, mascot, and name.

"We looked at a number of different places and we really liked the community out here. He like the building and it's just a perfect fit for us," said Bo Shipley.

What sits behind fence at "The Secret City" is no longer a secret, but the work done there is coming full circle. A recent unprecedented security breach at Y-12 has raised questions about operations from Oak Ridge all the way to Washington D.C.

We associate the facility with the production of nuclear weapons used in the United States efforts in World War II, and later in the Cold War. Work going on there today benefits more than the military.
