Oak Ridge police ID man killed in mountain bike accident


On Monday, Oak Ridge police identified the man killed in a mountain bike accident over the weekend.

Hikers found the body of Michael Biegalski, 38, of Oak Ridge on a trail at Haw Ridge Park Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the body was found about 300 yards from Old Edgemoor Road, according to Oak Ridge Police Department release.

Authorities said the accident didn't appear suspicious.

TN National Guard troops returning home in time for Christmas


(WBIR-Clinton) On Saturday, more than 40 soldiers with the Tennessee National Guard will return home from Afghanistan in time for Christmas.

The 1-230th Air Cavalry Squadron based in East Tennessee deployed to Afghanistan in February in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The remaining troops, including Staff Sgt. Daniel Bean, will return Saturday after a nearly year-long deployment.

Bean serves as a crew chief with the 1-230th Air Calvary Squadron. He is finishing his third combat deployment.

Wanted sex offender arrested in Anderson County


(WBIR) Anderson County deputies arrested Glen Reed Keller, 43, Tuesday evening after dispatch received a tip from a resident.

Keller, a registered sex offender, was wanted by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office for violation of the sexual offender registry.

According to a release, after dispatch received the tip they worked to come up with his location. Deputies went to the White Oak Lane address in the Heiskell community where they found Keller and arrested him without incident .

Congress approves Manhattan Project Historical National Park


(WBIR) It looks like a new national historic park will be coming to East Tennessee.

The U.S. Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act this week, which authorizes the establishment of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park in three sites-- Oak Ridge, Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Hanford, Washington as a three-site national park. The House and now Senate have both passed the bill.

Officials ID man found dead in Oak Ridge apartment


The Anderson County District Attorney General's Office identified a man found dead inside his apartment this week.

Officers found the body of Thomas Steven Thrasher Jr., 29, about 4:40 a.m. Monday in his Rolling Hills Apartment on West Vanderbilt Drive.

Police said Thrasher's wife and two children also lived at the apartment.

Oak Ridge police and the TBI are conducting a criminal investigation, according to the district attorney. Thrasher's death is considered "suspicious", according to authorities.

Clinton woman, 71, dies in crash


A 71-year-old Clinton woman died Tuesday morning when her car ran off a Clinton road, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reports.

Marianna G. Pearson was by herself in the 2000 Mazda 626 when it crashed about 9:03 a.m., according to Trooper Joseph Lindsay's report.

According to Lindsay, the four-door Mazda was heading south on Lake City Highway while on a right-hand curve. It went off the left side of the road near Pumphouse Road and struck an embankment on the car's passenger side.
